DIY Tribal Print Sneakers

Nails aren't my only passion. I love DIYing, and today I managed to score two pairs of white canvas sneakers for $10 and finally bought a set of Tulip Fabric Markers so I could decorate them.  Since tribal is huge, and I don't see it going away any time this summer, I figured it would be the perfect pattern.  I Googled "tribal print" for inspiration and just kind of went from there!

For the few steps I used, check after the break! (Update: I went over them a second time this morning, and the colors are SO much bolder.)

The shoes were $5 a pair at Wal-Mart.  When I saw they had two pairs left in my size I really couldn't just leave one of them, could I? (Also, I KNOW those sheets are horrible, but I managed to get superglue all over mine...long story. These are the only ones I could find. Sigh.) (And apparently I am also too lazy to just move off my bed to the perfectly fine floor.) (Or to just redo the shot in the living room, where I actually did the project.)

First I just did the black designs, keeping in mind where I wanted the colors to go later. If you use these markers, the time lapse also helps to keep the colors from bleeding-you can kind of see where I made that mistake early on in the shoe on the left. Stripes, designs, colors-it's really whatever YOU want it to be, and that's one of the things I love about DIY. After that, I just filled in where I thought each color should go and, voila, tribal print sneakers for $5! (Technically $17, since the markers were $12, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I didn't drain the markers dry, leaving them and the others for future projects.) Of course, you can do the same thing on any canvas shoe, or canvas anything, really.
